《Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation in Agricultural Comprehensive Development》was formally signed recently between Union Resources & Engineering Co., Ltd. and Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the Republic of Union of Myanmar. According to the introduction of the related principal of UREC, the Memorandum of Understanding is the first comprehensive development agreement on agriculture signed between Myanmar government and Chinese enterprises after the establishment of Myanmar new government. With the signing of the agreement, UREC shall obtain the rights of plantation and operation for 60 years on at least 60 thousand acres (about 360 thousand mus) of land from Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Myanmar, which has blazed a trail of Chinese enterprises’ participating in comprehensive development of Myanmar agriculture.

The project is also a key breakthrough in the execution of the “Bridgehead Strategy” of Yunnan Province. By taking good use of overseas land resources, developing overseas agricultural products market, exploring agricultural products of high-tech, high additional value and special dominance in Myanmar, UREC will build a pilot area, a bulwark and a window of communication for the international cooperation guided by the “Bridgehead Strategy” and achieve excellent publicity for the construction of the “Bridgehead”.

Moreover, after the start of the project, we can not only plant different sorts of crops based on the local natural and weather conditions, but also develop industries like sugar refining, starch producing, oil plants processing and intensive processing of agricultural products according to the particular cases and circumstances. Furthermore, we can replenish the supply of some agricultural products in Yunnan by buying back some of the crops from Myanmar. Along with the enlargement of our plantation abroad, either the quantity or the value of the buy-back agricultural products to Yunnan will surely increase. Meanwhile, the agricultural technology can also be popularized to the South-east Asian countries.
